Our Adventure Holiday was Fucking Amazing!

Our holiday in Mpumalanga was brilliant!  It was blistering hot most days - sometimes up to nearly 38 degrees C.

We spent a lot of time in the swimming pools but it a lot of adventurous stuff too.  Check out Mandy's Blog for a completely Day to Day breakdown of what we did. I'm gonna give you the shorter version.

Day 1 Arrival at Sabie River Camp we sourced a good spot to pitch our wee hoosie aka tent being sure to keep space for the other 12 tents' arrival the following day.  We spent the first day swimming in their amazing pools and enjoying the quiet and the sunshine.

Day 2 was a little different.

The others were due to arrive and join us!

As a group of 27 people, most of us went off early to enjoy the Skyway Canopy Tours.  10 zip slides both high over the trees and the last three zipping under the trees.  Each section of the trail varies in length from 70 to 230 meters linking a total of 10 platforms, making this the longest cable trail in Africa (1,2km).

My 7-year-old Megan was not scared at all - she had a blast and one of the youngest to complete the canopy tours solo.  It was exhilirating, exciting and very hot up there in the tree tops.  You could see for miles!

After the canopy tours, the group slipt up and we all went different ways for lunch and we took the girls horse riding at The Horse Whispers Sanctuary.  The girls LOVED the horse riding.

After a very long and scorching day, we all met up for supper that night - all 27 of us - at The Ant and Elephant Restaurant which was amazing. I was far too exhausted, hot and dirty to enjoy a good meal so the girls and I just had dessert.

Day 3 we went White Water Tubing  or Ghekoing down the Sabie River with Induna Adventures.  What an awesome experience!!  We got a DVD full of photos that the guide took because we obviously couldn't take the pictures!  I don't have pictures as it is with the rest of the group who are still there.  But I can tell you we jumped off a cliff about 9 meters down into the rapids.  It was hectic.  3 hours and 10 level 3 rapids later, we were exhausted and exhilirated!!!

Day 4 was meeting the Elephants and what an amazing expereince this was!

The Elephant Sanctuary in Hazyview was beautiful nd home to two young bull ellies, Casper (24 years old) and Siko (11 years old).  We got to brush them down, feed them, walk with them and ride them.  It was something I will NEVER forget. They are such beautiful animals, so gentle and sensitive and really intelligent.  We even got a kiss from Kito.

Day 5 Was the Big Swing and Foofie slide across the waterfall.

Megan wanted to do the jump but they said she was too young.  A very disappointed Meg did the Foofie slide across the gorge instead, which she thoroughly enjoyed.  Bad Ass Megan.

The Big Swimg is a 70 meter free-fall down and I thought I was gonna puke and shite myself all at the same time.  It was rainy and very misty and we couldn't see the bottom.  It was like free-falling into nothing - very hectic!

But once you were sitting swinging in the harness it was beautiful to see the waterfall and everything was so green and pretty (under the mist).  Then we had to walk up the slippery wooden steps to the top again.

What it looks like on a CLEAR day!!!

December Road Trip and Namibia 2003

December is around the corner and our close group of 30-odd campers have been planning a 3-week camping Road Trip for 18 months.

We've planned out the best route, organised cool places to stay, adventure activities to do and we leave in less than 40 days!

Unfortunately, my Boerewors and I are unable to enjoy all the activities of the trip because with him loosing his job earlier this year, we really can't afford it as we're catching up on the debt we racked up while we didn't have his salary.

Oh yeah, I know its sad but that's life..

However, the camping group of wonderful ladies and gents invited us to the "40 Days to Go" party yesterday.  They said, seeing as we were heavily involved in the organising of it all, we could attend the party, even though we're not going on the Road Trip anymore :-(

    It was a great party!!

They took us down memory lane of all the camps we've been on since 2003 making up a DVD collage of photo's we've taken along the years on our various camping adventures.

Fiona and Steve hosted the party at their warehouse and went to a lot of trouble with the decor.  We all slept over in our tents in the warehouse and we enjoyed Ostrich Potjie made by Ria and Rassie.  After that, the music pumped and the dancing started.

Steve had suspended a thick towing rope from the rafters of the warehouse and we used it as a big swing.

    What fun!

Even Wee Kaylin felt brave enough to have a go on the swing
We also had to have a meeting to finalise all the trip details
Then the dancing started.  Here's the girls doing line dancing

Our last Road Trip with all of us together was Namibia 2003, yeah we normally go away on short trips and weekends together, our long 3-week road trips are definintely not the norm.

    Namibia 2003

Anyway, our Namibia trip was awesome.  All of us often still speak of the trip very fondly.

The trip consisted of every day staying in a different place;  tents put up and the next morning tents taken down and camp packed away.  It was a hectic and harsh trip but a memory I will never forget.

It was hot as all fucking hell - 43 degrees C in the shade in some places and the dry heat took your breath away.  And all this with our wee Megan only 11 months old at the time.

Oh yeah, there were times early on in the Road Trip, when I wanted to turn back because of the hectic schedule but we changed plans slightly to fit in our wee Megan and all worked out okay.

Every place we stopped we'd empty out her toy box and fill it up with water so she could keep cool and have a wee swim.

At other places we even filled up the sinks at the ablution blocks just so we could keep her body temp down.

We soon got used to the heat and thoroughly enjoyed having massive beautiful sand dunes on one side of the road and an icy choppy ocean on the other side.

    Truly magnificent!

Everything is bigger in Namibia - espeically the bugs.  The spiders, roaches and mozzies are ten times bigger...it took a bit of getting used to but in the end we all saw it as the adventure of a life time.

One thing I will NEVER forget is the gorgeous sunets.  You don't experience them anywhere else in the world.  They are so huge and so spectacular!

Cherio 2009!

    So Long, Farewell..

    2009 was a good year all-in-all.

Well, it certainly has been eventfull!!

Yes, we had a major recession which took a toll on our strict budget, I didn't get an increase at work or a bonus because our company has been trying to keep their head above the water.  Nevertheless, its been jam-packed full of drama and fun.  Here's just some of the stuff:

I became an aunty of a beautiful niece

My Best Friend and I got our matching Friendship Tattoos.

I realised that life is too short for materialism, arguments, drama, nonsense things.

I started tracing my family ancestry and did a family tree going back to the late 1600's.

I voted in the 2009 General Elections and stood in the queue for an hour to make a cross on a piece of paper which made no fucking difference.

I had a seriously hair raising experience in our haunted tent.  I will NOT sleep in it ever again.  Tent For Sale - Going Cheap - Make me an offer!  Any offer.

We started organising our adventure-packaged December 2010 Road Trip Tour including jacuzzi safari, sleeping in tree houses in the bush and bunjee jumping.

Our awesome Family Holiday to the sea-side was unforgettable.  I realised even though my mum and mad dad live far away I still miss my Mum everday!

I realised that I can't get away with saying that I'm 29 till I die...the wrinkles and droppy body parts are tell-tale signs that I'm fibbing.

I want to skip Winter 2010.  The cold months SUCK big time!

You can't put a price on Funny Evenings at Home.

    I am saving for Botox.

Thoroughly enjoyed doing my bit for a few charities this year and will continue in 2010.

I got a black eye playing Ring-A-Rosie and then I fell down.

I learned that you need to verbalise your feelings and let things out into the big wide world.

Dance moves me.  It stirs many emotions within me.  Perhaps its why I'm addicted to SYTYCD.

I absolutely LIVE for Convesations with my Children.

    I'm a Bloggoholic

There are plenty more than 15 things that woman can do that men can't.

Happy Hogmanay and All the VERY BEST for 2010.
